Took apart a Kohler Courage engine from a Troy Bilt mower with a rusted out deck.
Made a GIF of the crankshaft counterweight.
Plastic cam gears :|
Cute lil oil pump!
Theres a scratch where the counterweights rubbed on. I’m selling the parts, but keeping the piston for another trophy project :)

It’s a clever little design.

Pics of the piston? Especially any markings on it.

I will tomorrow. Having it soaking overnight to remove the carbon buildup

Sweet. I used to work at a place that made pistons and it's always interesting to me to take a look at them. I don't know if they made anything for Kohler, I don't think so but I worked the auto side of things.

It got something on the top if I remember and a label for flywheel side.

Most will have casting stamps that show the company, which core was used and direction. There will also be stamping on the head to show direction, manufacture date, and depending on customer maybe a part number.

Mahle is the company :) My other piston doesn’t have anything. Was from a 8hp B&S.
I thought it said Ind. Brasil, but I looked it up and its Brazil Indiana. Must be where it was made.

I think you were correct the first time. Mahle does have a subsidiary in
Brazil
:
MAHLE Industry do Brasil Ltda.
Rodovia SP 340, Km 176,5 s/nº. Distrito Industrial I
13846-146 Mogi Guaçu-SP
If that were produced in Brazil, Indiana it would likely use the U.S. spelling of Brazil.
I suspect that the stamped numbers on the head are a date/time code and a plant code. Possibly a line code or something, but nothing there jumps out at me as being a part number. It’s hard telling how their stamping scheme works, I worked for a Mahle competitor.
